The National Gallery of Iceland was recently nominated for the Icelandic Educational Awards.
We are extremely proud of this recognition, which reinforces the museum’s commitment to its educational mission.
To mark the occasion, President of Iceland Halla Tómasdóttir hosted a formal ceremony at Bessastaðir, where the awards were presented across various categories. The museum’s role is to preserve and share the nation's visual cultural heritage with the public and through the educational system. It has been dedicated to creating connections with the school system through the publication of visual literacy materials, active dialogue with teachers, and support across all educational levels. Distance learning for rural schools is also an integral part of the museum's offerings. Additionally, the museum’s education department collaborates with the University of Iceland’s School of Education, where student teachers engage with the museum as a learning environment.
