Programme of the week

Event – Fríkirkjuvegur 30.01.2025
Good Thursday
You’re warmly invited to the National Gallery of Iceland for Good Thursday on January 30. Every last Thursdays of the month, the museum at Fríkirkjuvegur remains open until 10:00 PM, offering guests the chance to purchase annual passes at the regular ticket price.
At 7:00 PM, the documentary Nothing Special (Martin Zarka, 2019) will be screened at Verkstæðið on Fríkirkjuvegur. The film provides an intimate look into the work of Danish photographer Joakim Eskildsen, one of five photographers featured in the exhibition The Intimacy of the Everyday, which debuted last weekend.
Following the screening, from 8:00 to 9:30 PM, renowned photographer Páll Stefánsson will host a photography session, offering both technical and artistic guidance. Guests are encouraged to bring their own cameras and take advantage of this unique opportunity.
This event is perfect for photographers of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals. Don’t miss it!

From the symposium
Art Can Heal: A symposium in honor of Sigríður Björnsdóttir, art therapy specialist.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended the Art Can Heal symposium at the National Gallery of Iceland, held in honor of Sigríður Björnsdóttir, a pioneer in the field of art therapy in Iceland.
Here are a few snapshots from the event, which, as you can see, enjoyed a full house—something that brought us immense joy. A recording of the symposium will be available on the museum's YouTube channel in the coming weeks. We encourage you to stay connected and follow updates on the National Gallery of Iceland's website and social media platforms.
