On October 16th, admission to both locations of the National Gallery of Iceland will be free in celebration of its 140th anniversary. This date commemorates the day in 1884 when a newspaper article in Denmark first announced the founding of the art museum, providing the earliest known record of its existence.

Mirrors appear in this creative workshop where we transform the forms observed in the museum’s architecture into works of art. We’ll examine the man-made elements of our environment that we tend to see as ordinary, the building that houses us, and the architecture of our museum.

140 Works from the Collection of the National Gallery of Iceland
The collection of the National Gallery of Iceland is extensive and diverse, encompassing numerous important and remarkable works that resonate with the public. This special publication, released in honor of the museum's 140th anniversary, showcases a selection of artworks from the collection. The book offers insights and images of 140 selected pieces from its collection of around 16,000 works, including paintings, sculptures, video art, photographs, drawings, and installations.
